According to Lewis, the greatest mistake someone in a relationship can make is abandoning their true self in order to make peace in a relationship. This compromising can actually be a sign of deeper wounds that have not yet been healed. Lewis believes that as part of your responsibility to be emotionally accountable, you have to find your wounds in order to begin the work of emotional healing.
